Dr. Christian Zalai is a double-board-certified (US and Canada) colorectal and general surgeon. In 2012, he obtained his colorectal minimally invasive fellowship training in advanced laparoscopy, trans-anal endoscopic microsurgery, and robotics from Brown University in Rhode Island.
Dr. Zalai completed his undergraduate medical training and general surgical residency at McGill University. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2011, and after becoming certified by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, he became a fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 2012 and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons in 2017. He is also a fellow of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
After returning to Montreal in 2012, he joined the Faculty of Medicine at McGill as an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery. His clinical practice is based out of the Lakeshore General Hospital, a community-based clinical teaching site for medical students, general surgical residents and surgical oncology fellows from McGill University, where he implemented the Enhanced Recovery after Surgery Pathway for colorectal bowel resections in 2015. After developing, implementing, and leading the new Digestion and Metabolism educational curriculum for the 1st year medical students at McGill in 2014, he remains an active lecturer at the undergraduate level.
